In this guide, we'll help you link your Windows key to your Microsoft account. Doing so will allow you to reactivate Windows easily if you ever make significant changes to your computer.
Before you get started, please confirm the following:
- Make sure Windows is active on your computer. We will never ship out a PC without activating Windows for you.
- You will need to make sure you have a Microsoft account in order to link your Windows key to your Microsoft account.
To create one, follow the steps below:
*Please note that doing this will change your account from Local to a Microsoft account. Immediately after creating a Microsoft account using the steps below, your Windows key will be linked to your Microsoft account.
- Press the Windows key + i, or type in settings in the search on the task bar.
- Click on Accounts in the pop up window.
- On the left panel, click on Your Info.
- Click the Sign in with your Microsoft account instead link.
- Complete your sign-in information.
- Click Sign in.
- Type your current password.
- Click Next.
- Click the Set a PIN button, or the Skip this step link to complete the process.
To check if your Windows key is properly linked to your Microsoft account, follow the steps below:
- Press the Windows key + i, or type in settings in the search on the task bar.
- Click Update and Security in the pop up window.
- On the left panel, click on Activation.
If you successfully linked your Windows key to your Microsoft account, you should see "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account.β
Congratulations! You just linked your Windows product key to your Microsoft account.
